healthy-families-logoHealthy Families is our newest program. The Healthy Families America (HFA) model was developed in 1992 by Prevent Child Abuse America.  HFA is a nationally recognized evidence-based home visiting program model designed to work with overburdened families who are at-risk for adverse childhood experiences, including child maltreatment.  It is the primary home visiting model best equipped to work with families who may have histories of trauma, intimate partner violence, mental health and/or substance abuse issues.  Services begin prenatally or right after the birth of a baby and are offered voluntarily, intensively and over the long-term (3 to 5 years after the birth of the baby).

Healthy Families connects new parents around the state with a variety of services, including – for the most overburdened families – a free-of-charge home visitor who supports the family before the child is born until the child enters school. The program has been proven to reduce child abuse and neglect and increase children’s access to routine health care and immunizations.

Healthy Families partners with a variety of human service agencies in the community, including Carilion Clinic, local departments of social services and OB/GYN clinics.  Healthy Families has no income and insurance requirements for participation and is open to any expectant family in the Roanoke Valley, including Roanoke City, Roanoke County, Salem and Craig County that is interested in strengthening their family.

Healthy Families Roanoke Valley is affiliated with Healthy Families Virginia and Healthy Families America.
