Children’s Trust is pleased to offer child abuse prevention classes to elementary students in our service area (Cities of Roanoke and Salem and Counties of Botetourt, Craig, and Roanoke).

Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe ™ (SUBS) helps children learn skills to prevent or interrupt cycles of neglect, bullying, and child abuse—physical, emotional, and sexual. The developmentally appropriate curricula are research-based and evidence-informed. Lessons help increase children’s abilities to recognize unsafe situations or abusive behaviors, build resistance skills, and identify a responsive safety network of adults.

Supplementary materials engage parents and caregivers, teachers, and other community stakeholders.

For the 2020-21 school year, Children’s Trust is excited to offer SUBS on video, thanks to donations of time, talent, and expertise by Access Advertising and Public Relations and BOSS Motion Picture Company. Sydney Coyner, Children’s Trust Education Facilitator, is the instructor.

We prefer that a school counselor show the videos and be available for support. If not, a teacher or principal may show them.

Classes also may be scheduled via an interactive video platform.

Our funders require basic demographic data and, at the end, a count of how many students said the safety rules aloud. If you choose video or interactive online, forms will be provided to record and report this data back to Children’s Trust.

To receive the password to access the videos, or if you have questions, please fill out and submit the information requested below.
